What Is the True Role of a Coach? Unlocking the Answers Already Within You
The Misconception About Coaching
When people think of hiring a coach, they often expect someone to give them answers, tell them exactly what to do, and map out the perfect plan. They believe a coach’s role is to hand them a step-by-step guide to success—whether that’s in life, business, relationships, or personal growth.
But in reality, the most powerful and lasting breakthroughs don’t come from being told what to do. They come from uncovering the truth that’s already within you.
My Experience Working With a Coach
When I first worked with a coach, I expected guidance—but I didn’t expect the deep self-discovery that came with it.
Like many people, I initially thought coaching was about getting answers from someone more experienced—someone who had “figured it out” and could just tell me what to do. But what I quickly realized was that the most valuable part of coaching wasn’t receiving advice—it was learning how to trust myself.
My biggest breakthroughs didn’t come from my coach saying, “Here’s what you should do.” Instead, they came from moments when she asked me the right questions—questions that forced me to go inward, reflect, and connect to my intuition.
Through our work together, I was able to tap into my higher self, my inner wisdom, and the most authentic version of me. Instead of making decisions based on fear, self-doubt, or external expectations, I learned how to recognize what I truly wanted and trust myself to go after it.
And that’s when I understood: The answers I had been searching for weren’t hidden somewhere outside of me. They were always inside me—I just needed the right space, guidance, and questions to unlock them.
The True Role of a Coach
A great coach isn’t someone who dictates your path, hands you the answers, or tells you exactly what to do.
Instead, a coach’s true role is to hold space for you—to guide you in uncovering your own truth, your own clarity, and your own inner wisdom.
Coaching is about guiding, not controlling.
Asking, not assuming.
Empowering, not deciding.
When I work with clients, my role is not to tell them what to think, feel, or do. Instead, I:
✅ Ask thought-provoking questions that help them see beyond their fears and doubts.
✅ Guide them to uncover their own clarity and truth.
✅ Introduce insights, tools, and modalities that help them trust themselves more.
Because at the end of the day, you don’t need someone to give you all the answers—you need someone to help you access the answers you already have.
Why So Many People Struggle to Trust Themselves (Finding Themselves Stuck at a Crossroads)
As a society, we’ve become overly reliant on external validation.
We second-guess ourselves, constantly seeking opinions from friends, family, and even strangers on the internet before making decisions. We ask:
🔹 What do you think I should do?
🔹 Do you think this is the right choice?
🔹 What would you do if you were me?
While it’s okay to get input occasionally, many of us have become so conditioned to look outside ourselves for answers that we no longer trust our own intuition.
But my question for you is: why?
❓ Why don’t you trust yourself enough to make decisions without external approval?
❓ Why do you believe someone else’s opinion is more valid than your own inner knowing?
If you feel the need to have someone tell you exactly what to do, it’s worth exploring:
Am I afraid of making the wrong choice?
Do I doubt my own wisdom and abilities?
What part of me is seeking permission instead of trusting my truth?
Your intuition is your most powerful guide. But if you’ve spent years tuning it out in favor of external opinions, it might feel unfamiliar at first. That’s where coaching comes in—not to replace your intuition, but to help you reconnect with it.
